The mission of KeithRN is to:
“Transform nursing education through the use of clinical reasoning resources”.
The transformational paradigm changes in nursing education identified by Patricia Benner and her co-authors in Educating Nurses: A Call for Radical Transformation are NOT suggestions, but are evidence based practice findings of the educational research of the Carnegie Foundation. These paradigm changes include:
- CONTEXTUALIZE nursing theory content to the bedside so students can see whay it is RELEVANT
- Bring the CLINICAL and CLASSROOM domains of education TOGETHER so that they are more effectively integrated
- Emphasize CLINICAL REASONING as “nurse thinking” to effectively prepare students for practice
Clinical reasoning is the ability of the nurse to think in action and reason as a situation changes over time by capturing and understanding the significance of clinical trajectories and grasping the essence of the situation (1).
I will implement my mission by creating and providing PRACTICAL tools to promote clinical reasoning in both the classroom and clinical settings. By incorporating these tools in your program, transformation can be realized as you contextualize your content to the bedside, emphasize clinical reasoning, and integrate the classroom and clinical domains by using my clinical reasoning case studies. I also provide inspiring presentations at conferences or faculty workshops that empower nurse educators to “be the change” so that needed transformation can be realized!
